We wrap up our visit in Marrakesh--Days 13 and 14

We started our exploration of Marrakesh on foot...

watching out for those ever present motorbikes.

Loved the ornate doors of the Morrocan architecture.  Doors like this are prevalent throughout Morocco.  They showcase extreme attention to detail.

Our first stop was at the Bahia Palace.  It was built in the late 19th century, intended to be the greatest palace of its time. The name means "brilliance".
The sultan, his four wives and 24 concubines lived here.  Word was that their daily lives revolved around parties.
The tile work is simply amazing.

There are beautiful gardens with orange trees and fountains.
 and ornate stained glass
A group of school children were visiting the palace and wanted their photo taken with our group.

Next we walked through the labyrinth of the Medina through the souks.

Tagines for sale
 and spices galore!
We visited a carpet store and learned a little about weaving carpets.  The one this lady is working on will take almost a year to finish
They have a large inventory of rugs
and showed us about 50 of them.

But, sorry, no takers for a sale in our group.

We wandered through the Djemaa el-Fna square

to watch the street performers.

 and saw the snake charmers.

We ended our stay in Marrakesh by taking a horse and carriage ride through the city.

Some of our group now heads back to Casablanca with Mohammed to end their trip.  We stay for a few more days and head to the coastal city of Essaouira with a new trip leader, Naima.  Our goal is to see goats that climb trees!
