Galapagos day 1

On Saturday, May 28 we fly to Baltra in the Galapagos, meet our guides, Rafael and Pedro, jump into the pangas, and make our way to the M/V Evolution, a 192-foot, 16-cabin yacht.

On the way to the yacht, we spot a hammerhead shark.  Rafael remarks that this was a rare sighting for this time of year.  It was too quick to catch a photo of it, though.

The M/V Evolution...our home for the next week.
Once onboard, we quickly check out the yacht and our cabin.

We are in C4, which has a double bed and a port hole.

All the meals on the ship were wonderful.

We set sail that afternoon and circumnavigated Daphne Major islet, which is home to a variety of birds including the blue-footed boobies.  We saw many diving into the water.

Rafael said it was uncommon to see so many circling and diving.

We also saw dolphins swimming and jumping right next to the yacht....

And then a beautiful sunset.  It was a great start to our Galapagos expedition.

Next day we get up close to the Galapagos wildlife  and take in our first snorkeling.....
