Passau, Germany

The next morning as the ship cruises to Passau, Germany, we have an Apple Strudel-making demonstration.

Complete with recipe...
Apple strudel was one of the options for dessert served for lunch...and it was delicious.

We arrive in Passau, which is situated at the confluence of the Danube, Ilz, and Inn rivers, establishing it as an important center for trade for much of its history, especially for the salt trade from Bohemia.
Our view as we sailed into Passau

Our Program Director, Wes, took us on a walking tour of the city.

In the distance we could see the twin-towered St. Stephan's Cathedral.

St. Stephen's Cathedral is a baroque church from 1688 dedicated to Saint Stephen.  It is the seat of the Catholic Bishop of Passau and the main church of his diocese.

Inside the Cathedral we attended an organ concert.

This magnificent 17th-century cathedral contains one of the world's largest pipe organs, with 17,774 pipes and 234 resounding stops.
Great concert!!

In the afternoon we hiked up to the fortress, Veste Oberhaus, founded in 1219.

We wandered around the old walls of the fortress a bit and had a good view of the 3 rivers coming together...

And then it was time to reward ourselves..it was a rather warm day!

Cruising the river in the evening was so peaceful......a great way to end the day.
