Kelheim, Germany and the Danube Gorge

The next day our stop was Kellheim,  Germany, and we walked a short distance into the town.

There we boarded a ferry for a ride through the beautiful Danube Gorge, the river's narrowest and deepest stretch.

We passed many limestone rock formations, each with a little story that has been passed down through the ages.

Once we reached the Monastery of Weltenburg, the ferry turned around for the trip back to Kelheim.

We enjoyed this trip with Roger and Shellee from Minnesota.

As we walked back to the ship, we took a detour and crossed this cool-looking pedestrian bridge, a mono-cable suspension bridge with a curved deck, completed in 1988.

In the afternoon we travel by bus to the village of Ashbach and visited the local home of Maria for a traditional Kaffeeklatsch.
We enjoyed coffee and cake and chatted with Maria about life in this
Bavarian community.

Maria has a map of the USA where she marks where all her guests are from.  She has had many visitors from all over the US and likes to hear about our lives in the USA.
We went to her backyard to check out her gardens.

Time to bid Maria farewell and thank her for a wonderful visit.

Back on the ship, we headed toward our next stop along the Danube....Nuremberg.
